Who is it for?
Dancing of any kind is great for the body and mind and Irish Set Dancing is no exception.
Irish Set Dancing is great for having fun, getting some exercise, and meeting people. It is suitable for people of all ages, though you do need to be mobile.
The dancing is done in square sets, four couples dancing together. You don’t need to bring a partner with you. We have plenty of single dancers in the group and those that do come with a partner dance with other people during the evening.
Irish Set Dancing exercises your brain as well as your body. The moves don’t repeat very often, so you need to listen for the calling during the dances. As time goes by the more popular dances will become familiar with less need for calling.
Irish Set Dancing is a great social activity. Many of the dances have moves where you get to dance with the other people in your set, so you quickly get to meet the other people in the group. As well as meeting on club nights we often meet up for meals or to go to concerts. There is also the opportunity to travel for dance weekends elsewhere in the UK, Ireland or beyond.
It’s not Riverdance, it’s not Strictly, it is fun and lively social dancing. Come and give it a go. After a short time you could be dancing in the street like these people in Ireland…
