We have had some good times dancing outdoors in parks and gardens during the pandemic, but now it is over! We are looking forward to getting back onto a proper dance floor and a bit more normality.
From August 11th we will be back to meeting at the Jolly Farmer each Wednesday. They have refurbished their dance floor, so we are looking forward to using that. From 19th September we will be at Colyford Memorial Hall each month. (See the Join Us section for more details.)
During the pandemic we adjusted some dances to enable the participants to be socially distanced from each other (except your own partner), and to make them easier to do on a grassy surface. As soon we could six of us met in a garden to work out how we could dance while still keeping safe. We worked out several variations of traditional dances and even wrote two new dances of our own, especially for six dancers. As more people could meet in public places we moved to the park in Newton Abbot and danced there, when the weather allowed. We also held a few sessions as unofficial fringe events at the 2021 Celebration of Sidmouth Folk Festival.
Dancing outdoors has been a great substitute, but we are glad that it is over!
