We have joined the Plastic Free Newton Abbot Campaign! We are delighted to be doing our bit to help to reduce the amount of plastic waste in the environment. As a partner organisation to the Plastic Free Campaign we will help to get the Plastic Free status for Newton Abbot. This may encourage businesses and individuals to think of ways to reduce the amount of single-use plastics we all use.
Plastic items which can be reused many times are not such a problem. The campaign tackles plastic items which are used once and then thrown away, such as wipes, packaging, plastic straws, cutlery, drinks bottles and many others.
It does take a little effort to avoid using some plastic items. For example, remembering to take a reusable drinks bottle with you when you go out, instead of buying a drink and throwing away the bottle afterwards, or choosing shops where vegetables are packed in paper bags instead of being wrapped in plastic. Plastic containers are often refillable too. The reduced waste shop in the covered market at Newton Abbot has many items sold in bulk, so you refill your own containers. They have many cleaning fluids, toiletries, and foods including rice, pasta, nuts, dried fruit and many others. You can even refill your milk bottles at Stoneman’s Deli in the market.
